The sweet smell of sandalwood from Mysore is well known in India. Mysore is famous for its sandalwood carvings and silk materials. Mysore was referred as "Manishur" during the reign of king Ashoka. Mysore was ruled by the Yadu Dynasty in 1399 A.D. This land was ruled by King Tipu Sultan. After the fall of Srirangapatna and death of Tipu Sultan in 1799, Mysore became the capital of the Wodeyars. The transformation of Mysore from a small town to a modern township began during the period of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. It was Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV who developed Mysore into a handsome city with excellent planning. He brought fame to Mysore as a city of wide roads, imposing building and gardens filled with beauty.
